Product description
Solid carbide corner radius end mill for aluminium · 3 flutes
Corner radius R, 35° helix and polished flutes
A three-flute solid carbide corner radius end mill, intended primarily for machining aluminium alloys. It features corner radius R, a 35° helix and large, mirror-polished flutes. Cutting diameter, radius, shank diameter and overall length are selected for the individual variant.
1. Workpiece materials
| Material | Application |
|---|---|
| Aluminium alloys | The primary application of this end mill. Select the cutting diameter and corner radius to suit the component. |
| Copper alloys | An additional material group suitable for this end mill. |
| Acrylic / PMMA | Suitable for machining acrylic. |
| Plastics | Machining plastics with consideration for the particular material and its properties. |
| Wood | An additional application in wood machining. |
2. Construction and technical specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Tool type | Corner radius end mill with corner radius R |
| Tool material | Solid carbide |
| Material structure | Micrograin; grain size 0.6 µm |
| Number of flutes | 3 |
| Helix angle | 35° |
| Flutes | Large, mirror-polished |
| Cutting diameter | Ø1–12 mm, depending on the variant |
| Corner radius | R0.2–2 mm, depending on the variant |
| Overall length | 50, 60, 75, 100 or 150 mm, depending on the variant |
These ranges describe the end mill family. Available combinations of cutting diameter, radius, shank diameter and length are shown in the size selector and on the selected variant card.
3. Machining operations
| Operation | Scope |
|---|---|
| Face milling | Machining flat surfaces. |
| Side milling | Machining the side surfaces of a component. |
| Slot milling | Machining slots with a suitable cutting diameter. |
| U-shaped grooves | Machining U-shaped grooves; select the corner radius to match the component geometry. |
| Hole machining | Milling holes using a suitable toolpath. |
4. How to read the variant dimensions
Example designation: Ø5.0xR0.5x6Dx50L. Each value describes a separate tool dimension. All linear dimensions are in millimetres.
| Symbol | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Ø | Cutting diameter | Ø5 mm |
| R | Corner radius of the cutting section | R0.5 mm |
| D | Shank diameter | Ø6 mm |
| L | Overall tool length | 50 mm |
A decimal point in the variant code and a decimal comma in the Polish text denote the same value: R0.5 corresponds to R0,5 mm. R identifies the corner radius, rather than half the cutting diameter.
5. Selecting the size
- Diameter and radius: check the cutting dimensions and the required corner radius in the component.
- Shank: compare its dimension with the holder. The Ø5 mm end mill with R0.5 mm corner radius and 50 mm overall length is available with a Ø5 or Ø6 mm shank.
- Length: select the overall length and tool projection to provide access to the machining area.
- Selected variant: compare the designation and the labelled dimensions on its card. Check the price and availability for the selected size.
Overall length L is not the cutting length. Photographs illustrate the tool; select the size from its designation and stated dimensions, rather than from the proportions of a photograph.
6. Machine and setup
| Area | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Machine type | Machining centres, CNC milling machines and engraving machines with a suitable spindle and holder. |
| Tool projection | Keep the projection from the holder as short as the operation permits. |
| Speed and feed | Adjust the cutting parameters to the material, diameter and operating conditions. Reassess the settings when using a longer projection. |
For metal machining, consider a cutting fluid suited to the workpiece material and the process. Select the machining conditions separately for metals, plastics and wood.
7. What is supplied
One piece means one end mill in the selected variant. Choose the size in the product selector. A photograph showing several tools illustrates the product family and does not indicate a set.
8. Frequently asked questions
What does radius R mean?
It is the corner radius of the cutting section. Select it to match the required component geometry.
Is this end mill suitable for copper alloys and acrylic?
Yes. In addition to its primary use in aluminium alloys, the application range includes copper alloys, acrylic, plastics and wood. Select the operating conditions for the particular material.
Is the shank always the same diameter as the cutting section?
No. These are separate dimensions. Check the shank diameter specified for the individual variant before selecting the holder.
