Product description
Tapping holder body with axial compensation in both directions and a removable tap collet. The family includes BT tapers, Morse tapers and cylindrical shanks. Select the machine shank and the interface system for the separately selected tap collet.
The selected item is the holder body. The tap collet and the tap itself are separate items. BT versions include a pull stud; check the machine's retention requirements when selecting the holder.
Application and selection
The holder is designed to retain a removable tap collet during tapping. The body provides axial compensation. Select the body interface, machine shank and separate tap collet specifications together.
| Selection item | Feature to check | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Machine shank | BT, Morse taper or cylindrical shank | The body must match the machine's shank interface. |
| Body interface | GT12, GT24 or TC820 | The system identifies the connection for the separate tap collet. |
| Tap collet | Connection, tap shank diameter and square | The nominal thread size alone does not define all tap shank dimensions. |
| Selected variant | Tapping range and dimensions on the variant card | Specifications differ between versions. |
BT, Morse taper and cylindrical shanks
| Family | Shank designation | Variant features |
|---|---|---|
| BT | BT30, BT40, BT50 | BT taper shank; the tap collet system is a separate part of the designation. |
| Morse taper | MT2, MT3, MT4, MT5 | Morse taper shank; MT is the designation used in the variant code. |
| Cylindrical shank | C16, C20, C25, C32, C40 | The number after C identifies the shank diameter in millimetres. Available diameters depend on the body interface system. |
Every shank type is not available with every interface system. Use the specific combinations in the variant selector. The collet system designation does not replace the machine shank designation.
Tap collet connection
| System | Connection diameter | Selection |
|---|---|---|
| GT12 | 19 mm | Select a collet that matches the system and connection dimensions. |
| GT24 | 30 mm | Check the collet connection diameter. |
| TC820 | 31 mm | Check the collet connection diameter. |
GT24 has a 30 mm connection and TC820 a 31 mm connection. This diameter difference matters when selecting components. Check both the system designation and connection diameter.
Tapping range and dimensions
| Version | System | Range on the variant card |
|---|---|---|
| BT30, BT40 and Morse taper | GT12 | M2-M16 |
| BT50 and cylindrical shank | GT12 | M3-M16 |
| BT and Morse taper | GT24 | M4-M30 |
| BT and Morse taper | TC820 | M4-M30 |
| Cylindrical shank | GT24 | M5-M30 |
The stated ranges describe the relevant body configuration. The correct tap collet must also match the diameter and square of the selected tap shank. Do not apply one version's range to other variants.
| Dimension designation | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Body dimension for BT versions | Dimension from the interface face to the flange, excluding the tapered shank. |
| Body dimension for Morse taper versions | Dimension of the body section, excluding the tapered shank. |
| 110L in a C version code with GT12 | Body dimension of 110 mm; the shank is shown separately. |
| 130L in a C version code with GT24 | Body dimension of 130 mm; the shank is shown separately. |
| C version shank | Shank length of 70 mm; its diameter follows the C designation. |
The body dimension and shank length are separate specifications. The 110L and 130L code endings do not identify the overall length of a complete holder fitted with a tap collet.
Axial compensation and collet replacement
The bodies are shown with axial compensation in both directions. The tap collet is a removable component fitted into the body interface. Body compensation and selection of the separate collet are two parts of assembling the tapping arrangement.
The body designation does not specify the release torque of a separate overload clutch. If a clutch-equipped collet is required, select the appropriate component using its own specifications.
Contents and separately purchased items
| Item | Included in this offer |
|---|---|
| Holder body | The item selected in this family. |
| Pull stud for BT | Included with BT variants; check that its specification matches the machine. |
| Tap collet | Purchased separately. |
| Tap | Purchased separately. |
The collet and tap pictured beside the holder illustrate its use. Select both components for the specific interface system and tool.
Selecting compatible components
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1. Shank | Select BT, Morse taper or the required cylindrical shank. |
| 2. Body interface | Select GT12, GT24 or TC820 and confirm the connection diameter. |
| 3. Tap | Check the nominal thread size, tap shank diameter and square. |
| 4. Tap collet | Select a separate collet with a matching connection and the correct tap retention dimensions. |
| 5. Dimensions | Compare the body and shank dimensions with the card for the exact variant. |
The cylindrical GT12 cards also list G3, JJ3 and TC312, while the cylindrical GT24 cards list G12 and JJ4. This information applies to those cylindrical versions. It is not a universal replacement list for every BT or Morse taper body.
Questions and answers
Is the tap part of the holder body?
The tap is purchased separately. Select it for the operation and the specifications of the separate tap collet.
Is a tap collet included?
The tap collet is purchased separately. Selecting the body determines the interface system for the required collet.
How do GT24 and TC820 differ?
In this family, GT24 has a 30 mm connection and TC820 a 31 mm connection. Check the code and dimension of both components.
What does 110L or 130L mean with a C shank?
It is the body dimension. The card describes the shank separately: it is 70 mm long, with a diameter defined by the C designation.
Does one tapping range apply to the whole family?
The range depends on the shank and interface system. Check the card for the exact variant before selecting it.
Photos are illustrative. The sale comprises one selected tapping-holder body. Choose using the technical card of the exact variant.
Select a pull stud
The BT pull stud link applies to this holder's BT variants. MK and C variants use separate mounting systems.
Confirm the selection against the spindle requirements: head profile and angle, thread, length, bore and seal.
