Product code: CT08-CT16-CZ005
Product description
This product family comprises the components of a rotary broaching system for polygonal holes: broaches and matching holders in the CT08 and CT16 systems. Select the required component from the variant list above the purchase button.
Each variant has its own technical drawing with the dimensions for that particular version. Before purchasing, check the full variant name, the CT08/CT16 system, the broach geometry or holder shank type, and the dimensions shown in the corresponding image.
Applications
The tools are intended for use on conventional lathes, CNC automatic machines, machining centers and drilling machines. This product family is intended for producing blind and through holes with polygonal cross-sections.
- metric and imperial hexagonal holes,
- Torx holes in the variants listed in the selector,
- square holes,
- other regular and irregular polygons, according to the selected broach.
The feed range for the process is 0.02–0.1 mm/rev. The remaining parameters must be selected with regard to the workpiece material, hole geometry, system rigidity and specific tool variant.
System components
The system consists of two matching components: a broach that forms the hole profile and a holder mounted in the machine tool. CT08 and CT16 variants are not a single universal size. The system designation on the broach must match the system designation on the holder.
One-piece high-speed steel broaches are available, as well as variants with different tool materials or coatings, including uncoated versions, versions for steel or stainless steel, and carbide versions. The full name of the selected variant specifies its construction and intended workpiece material.
| Component | Number of variants in this listing | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Broaches | 83 | form the hole geometry and size specified in the name |
| Holders | 40 | hold the broach and connect the system to the machine tool |
Technical specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Process | rotary broaching |

Dimensions differ between variants. Before purchasing, refer only to the technical drawing assigned to the selected variant; do not use dimensions from another version.
Available variant families
| Family | Identification and selection |
|---|---|
| CT08 broaches | metric and imperial versions; select by the shape, size and material specified in the variant name |
| CT16 broaches | larger CT16 system; standard and long versions available |
| Torx broaches | Torx broach variants identified in the selector |
| Square broaches | CT08 variants from 3 to 10 mm |
| Holders | CT08/CT16 versions with different shanks, short holders, holders for sliding-headstock automatic lathes, and reinforced holders |
Hexagonal broaches are available in different versions intended, as specified in the variant name, for copper and aluminum, steel, stainless steel, quenched and tempered materials, hardened materials, and titanium alloys. Do not substitute one version for another solely because they have the same size.
Holder variants include different shank diameters and mounting types, including cylindrical shanks, Morse tapers, short versions, versions for sliding-headstock automatic lathes, and reinforced holders. The exact type is specified in the variant name.
How to select the correct variant
| Step | What to select | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Select the component | broach or holder |
| 2 | Select the system | CT08 or CT16, as specified in the variant name |
| 3 | Select the geometry | hexagon, Torx, square or another variant specified in the name |
| 4 | Select the size | nominal size and dimension across flats specified in the name and image |
| 5 | Check the mounting | holder shank type and dimensions in the drawing for that specific variant |
For hexagonal broaches, the dimension “across flats” describes the target size of the geometry. For imperial variants, the name includes both the imperial size and its corresponding value in millimeters.
Dimensions and variant drawings
Selecting a variant in the store displays its assigned technical drawing with dimension lines, arrows, values and units. Holder drawings show, among other details, the lengths, shank diameters and mounting-section dimensions for that particular version.
Do not read dimensions from another variant's thumbnail. Visually similar products may differ in length, shank diameter, holder body diameter, bearing arrangement or mounting method.
| Check | Correct method |
|---|---|
| Broach size | full variant name and the value in its drawing |
| System | CT08 or CT16 designation in the broach and holder names |
| Holder shank | shank designation and dimensions in the drawing for that specific holder |
| Units | dimensions are given in mm unless the variant is explicitly described as imperial |
Scope of delivery
The price and selection apply to one piece of the variant shown in the selector. The broach and holder are sold as separate variants. For a complete system, select and order a compatible broach and holder as two separate items.
The variant name identifies whether the selected product is a broach or a holder. Components shown together in overview images illustrate the product family and do not automatically constitute a complete set supplied as one variant.
Frequently asked questions
Are the broach and holder sold together?
No. Each list entry is a separate variant. To assemble a complete system, select a compatible broach and holder separately.
Does a CT08 broach fit a CT16 holder?
Do not pair the components this way. The system designations of the broach and holder should match.
Where can I find the exact dimensions?
In the image assigned to the selected variant. Dimension lines and values are part of the drawing for that specific product.
What does the dimension across flats mean?
It is the distance between two opposing flat faces of the hexagonal geometry, as specified in the name of that broach.
Are versions available for different materials?
Yes, but only for the materials specified in the variant names. Select the version described for your workpiece material.
Do all variants have the same shank?
No. Holders are available with different shanks and dimensions. Check the name and drawing for the specific variant before selecting it.
