Product description
Replaceable SR system cutting inserts are selected by the complete variant code, insert length and thread pitch. This listing includes standard versions, variants for hardened steel and variants for aluminum. Each item is sold individually.
Applications
SR inserts are intended for use with compatible SR system holders and heads for thread milling. Selection is based on the variant designation. Color or the number of teeth visible in a photograph alone is not sufficient for identification. The number of teeth shown in some photographs is explicitly illustrative.
- The complete code indicates the insert length and thread profile or pitch.
- Standard variants, variants for hardened steel and variants for aluminum must be treated as separate versions.
- The inserts work with the corresponding SR holder family specified for the holder.
- Each insert is offered as one piece, rather than a box or pack.
How to read the variant designation
The first part of the code identifies the insert length, and the following part specifies the thread pitch or profile. The listed designations include metric variants and variants marked W, BSPT, NPT and UN. Order the exact code required by the workpiece documentation or the holder in use, without substituting a visually similar code.
| Designation element | Meaning in this listing | Checking rule |
|---|---|---|
| 12, 14, 21, 30 or 40 | insert length given in millimeters | must match the holder family |
| Decimal value | pitch specified for the variant | check character by character |
| W | profile identified by this designation | do not substitute BSPT, NPT or UN |
| BSPT | BSPT profile | select the exact code |
| NPT | NPT profile | select the exact code |
| UN | UN profile | select the exact code |
Available families
The range includes insert lengths from 12 to 40 mm and stated pitches from 0,5 to 6 mm, as well as inch thread profiles identified by a separate code. The table below groups the versions without publishing a fixed list, because the current selection is always shown in the variant selector.
| Version | Insert length | Range of values given as pitch | Decisive designation |
|---|---|---|---|
| for aluminum | 14 mm | 1 to 2,5 mm | selected variant code |
| for aluminum | 21 mm | 1 to 3,5 mm | selected variant code |
| for aluminum | 30 mm | 2 to 5 mm | selected variant code |
| standard | 14 mm | 1 to 2,5 mm | selected variant code |
| standard | 21 mm | 1 to 3,5 mm | selected variant code |
| standard | 12 mm | 0,5 to 1,5 mm | selected variant code |
| for hardened steel | 14 mm | 1 to 2,54 mm | selected variant code |
| for hardened steel | 21 mm | 1 to 3,5 mm | selected variant code |
| for hardened steel | 30 mm | 1,5 to 5 mm | selected variant code |
| standard | 40 mm | 1,5 to 6 mm | selected variant code |
Standard, hardened steel and aluminum versions
| Type | Version information | How to order |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | basic group of variants | select the complete code, length and pitch |
| For aluminum | variant intended for aluminum | select only a variant explicitly described this way |
| For hardened steel | separate group for hardened steel | select the exact variant code for hardened steel |
The aluminum application must not be extended to a standard insert or an insert for hardened steel. Do not assume a material, grade or coating unless it is specified for the exact variant. The color visible in the photograph remains a feature of the pictured product, but does not replace its technical designation.
Selection for an SR holder
- Read the compatible insert family from the holder card, for example 12N/E**, 14N/E**, 21N/E**, 30N/E** or 40N/E**.
- Match the insert length to the holder family.
- Select the correct thread pitch or profile: metric, W, BSPT, NPT or UN.
- Check whether the standard version, the version for hardened steel or the version for aluminum is required.
- Compare the complete code in the selector with the code required by the documentation or shown on the existing insert.
If the holder code specifies a family with two letters, retain all the information from the holder card. Matching the length alone does not confirm profile compatibility. If in doubt, base the selection on the complete holder and insert codes.
Data on the selected variant card
Each variant card gives the insert name, length and specified pitch. Read the version from the complete name of the selected variant: standard, for hardened steel or for aluminum. Where the number of teeth in a photograph is illustrative, selection is determined by the designation, rather than the number of visible teeth.
| Card field | How to interpret it |
|---|---|
| Variant code | primary identifier of the insert being ordered |
| Insert length | dimension matched to the holder family |
| Thread pitch | value specified for the exact profile |
| Version | standard, for hardened steel or for aluminum |
| Photograph note | the number of teeth in the photograph may be illustrative |

Frequently asked questions
Is the price for a pack?
No. The price is for one insert in the selected variant.
Is the holder included?
No. This listing includes only one selected SR insert.
Can the number of teeth be determined from the photograph?
Do not select a variant on this basis. The number of teeth in the photograph is stated to be illustrative.
Is an insert for aluminum the same as a standard insert?
No. The aluminum variant is separately designated and must be selected deliberately.
How do I select the insert length?
Read the compatible insert family from the SR holder and match it to the complete variant code.
Can a similar code replace the correct one?
No. Order the exact profile and pitch required for the thread being machined.
