Product description
Cobalt high-speed steel drill made of HSS-Co5 grade M35 with 5% cobalt, manufactured to DIN 338. Designed for drilling stainless steel, acid-resistant steel and other difficult-to-machine materials where conventional HSS drills quickly lose their edge. The cobalt addition increases hot hardness and wear resistance, supporting longer tool life and operation at higher cutting parameters. Cylindrical shank, ground right-hand cutting design, 135° point angle.
Applications
- Drilling stainless steel (inox), acid-resistant steel and heat-resistant steel.
- Alloy steels, tool steels and steels with tensile strength up to approximately Rm 1100 MPa.
- Grey and ductile cast iron, cast steel, bronze and titanium alloys.
- Use on bench drills, pillar drills, lathes and milling machines.
Cobalt (5%) incorporated into the high-speed steel structure maintains cutting-edge hardness at the high temperatures generated when drilling ductile and hardened materials. This allows an M35 drill to work in applications where HSS and HSS-G drills struggle.

FAQ
How does a cobalt drill differ from a conventional HSS drill?
The 5% cobalt addition (M35 grade, HSS-Co5) increases hot hardness. The drill retains its edge at higher temperatures, allowing it to handle stainless steel and hardened materials where conventional HSS becomes dull.
Is coolant needed during drilling?
For stainless steel and titanium, coolant, low spindle speeds and a steady feed are recommended. This helps prevent cutting-edge overheating and work hardening of the material.
What point angle do these drills have?
135°. This angle makes starting a hole without a centre mark easier and performs better in hard materials than a standard 118° point.
