Product description
Single-flute DLC solid carbide end mill
For aluminium · four dimensions in each size designation
A single-flute solid carbide end mill with a DLC coating, intended for milling aluminium. The selected size determines the cutting diameter, flute length, shank diameter and overall tool length.
1. Construction and specifications
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Tool type | Shank end mill |
| Tool material | VHM — solid carbide |
| Number of flutes | 1 |
| Coating | DLC |
| Workpiece material | Aluminium |
| Shank type | Cylindrical |
| Dimensions | Cutting diameter, flute length, shank diameter and overall length — as specified for the selected size |
The solid carbide material and number of flutes describe the tool construction. Exact dimensions are provided on the card for the selected size.
2. Application in aluminium
The end mill is intended for milling aluminium. Select a tool with the specific material grade, part geometry and planned operation in mind. Choosing a cutting diameter does not replace checking the flute length and how the shank will be held.
Preparing the machining program requires the dimensions of the selected tool. In particular, distinguish cutting diameter from shank diameter and flute length from overall length. These are separate entries in both the size designation and dimension card.
3. How to read the size designation
The example Ø6x17x6Dx50L means a cutting diameter of 6 mm, flute length of 17 mm, shank diameter of 6 mm and overall length of 50 mm. All four values are in millimetres.
| Designation element | Meaning | Value in the example |
|---|---|---|
| Ø6 | Cutting diameter | 6 mm |
| 17 | Flute length — cutting section | 17 mm |
| 6D | Shank diameter | 6 mm |
| 50L | Overall tool length | 50 mm |
The letter D after a number identifies shank diameter, while L after a number identifies overall length. The size code uses a decimal point: for example, 3.175 means 3.175 mm. The order of the dimensions is the same throughout this listing.
4. Selecting tool dimensions
| Dimension to check | What to compare before selecting |
|---|---|
| Cutting diameter | The part dimensions and planned machining geometry. |
| Flute length | The cutting-section length needed for the operation. This is the second value in the code. |
| Shank diameter | The tool mounting size in the holder or collet. Read the value followed by D. |
| Overall length | The full tool length and access of both tool and holder to the machining area. |
5. Dimension cards and photographs
After selecting a size, compare its designation with the yellow card heading. The drawing and table show four dimensions: cutting diameter, flute length, shank diameter and overall length.
The cards contain Polish labels and smaller English translations. The photograph illustrates the tool construction; the numerical values specify the selected size. Do not determine tool dimensions by measuring the photograph.
6. Preparing for use
- Check the design and size. Compare the tool with the selected card and size designation.
- Check the shank and holder. Compare the diameter followed by D with the tool mounting. Account for the actual tool extension.
- Enter the correct tool data. The diameter and lengths in the program must match the mounted tool.
- Select conditions for the specific operation. Account for the material, tool dimensions, mounting and machine capabilities.
7. Frequently asked questions
How many flutes does this end mill have?
One. It is a monolithic solid carbide end mill with a DLC coating, intended for aluminium.
Is the shank diameter always equal to the cutting diameter?
Check both dimensions separately. The first value identifies cutting diameter; the value followed by D identifies shank diameter.
Does the value followed by L mean flute length?
No. L identifies overall tool length. Flute length is the second dimension in the size designation and has a separate row on the card.
How should I select a size when the photographs look similar?
Compare all four values in the designation and dimension table. Photographs are illustrative; the stated numbers specify the size.
