Product description

Ground precision parallels for machine vises

Hardened 20Cr steel · 58–62 HRC · sets in a wooden case

A set of precision parallels for supporting a workpiece in a machine vise during machining. The ground 20Cr steel elements are supplied in matched pairs and stored in a wooden case. The set designation specifies thickness, length, the range of pair heights and the number of pairs.

1. Application

Parallels support a workpiece in a machine vise. The two parallels in each pair have the same dimensions. The other pairs in the set provide different support heights, as specified by their markings.

2. Steel and construction

Hardened 20Cr steel with a hardness of 58–62 HRC. Hardening increases wear resistance, and the parallel surfaces are ground. Parallelism accuracy is below 0.005 mm.

The edges are precisely chamfered and the dimensions are laser marked. The markings identify the elements after removal from the case and show their size. The parallels are protected with oiled paper.

The dimension ranges cover the whole set family. They do not mean that every combination of thickness, length and height is available. See the selected variant and its size card for the exact dimensions and set composition.

4. Reading the set dimensions

Example designation: 4x120 (6 pairs; 10–35 mm). The first number is thickness and the second is length. The brackets give the number of pairs and their height range. Each pair consists of two pieces with identical dimensions.

SymbolMeaningExample
TThickness of an individual parallel4 mm
LLength of an individual parallel120 mm
HHeight of an individual parallelFrom 10 to 35 mm in this set
6 pairsNumber of pairs in the set12 pieces
10–35 mmRange of pair heights10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 mm
T × H × LOrder of dimensions for one elementThickness × height × length
A height range does not describe continuous adjustment. The set contains specific pairs at the listed heights. Refer to the individual set card for the complete list of heights.

5. Sets with a common thickness and length

In these sets, the parallels share a thickness and length, while each pair has a different height. The table groups the sets by pair count; its ranges cover the different sizes within each family.

Set familyThickness TLength LHeights H
6 pairs4 mm120 or 125 mm10–35 mm
8 pairs8 mm120, 160 or 200 mm12–38 mm or 17–42 mm
9 pairs, common T and L4, 5, 6, 8, 8.5 or 10 mm100, 150 or 160 mm10–42 mm or 14–44 mm
12 pairs10 mm120 or 150 mm14–40 mm
14 pairs3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 10 mm150 or 200 mm14–50 mm
18 pairs8 mm150 mm17–51 mm or 16–50 mm
Values in a row describe the family and cannot be combined freely. For example, in the 8-pair family the height range depends on the set length. Select the complete size designation, rather than the pair count alone.

6. Contents and packaging

The item supplied is one set in the selected size, packed in a wooden case. The number of pieces is twice the number of pairs. Each height or dimension entry in the composition represents a pair of two parallels.

Oiled paper protects the parallels against corrosion. A set photograph may show the elements in their protective wrapping. The stated dimensions refer to the parallels, rather than to the wooden case.

9 pairs18 pieces

7. Mixed sets and pair heights

Mixed sets contain pairs with different thicknesses. All elements in the mixed 125 mm and 150 mm sets share the same length. The mixed 9-pair set also contains different lengths.

Set constructionElement dimensionsComposition
Mixed, 9 pairsDifferent thicknesses and heights; L: 100, 150 or 200 mm9 different sizes, 2 pieces of each; complete size designations on the set card
Mixed, 125 mm lengthT: 8, 10, 12 and 14 mm; H: 11–42 mm; L: 125 mm24 pairs; 6 pairs for each thickness
Mixed, 150 mm lengthT: 8, 10, 12 and 14 mm; H: 11–42 mm; L: 150 mm24 pairs; 6 pairs for each thickness

The 18-pair sets have either odd heights from 17 to 51 mm or even heights from 16 to 50 mm, in 2 mm steps. Both share an 8 mm thickness and a 150 mm length, but contain different heights.

8. Frequently asked questions

Is the price for one parallel or a set?

The item supplied is one set in the selected size, in a wooden case. The number of pairs and pieces depends on the variant.

Do the two parallels in a pair have identical dimensions?

Yes. Each pair consists of two parallels with identical dimensions. Other pairs can have different heights and, in mixed sets, different thicknesses or lengths.

What is the difference between thickness and height?

Thickness is T and height is H. In 4x120, the first number is the 4 mm thickness and the second is the 120 mm length. Heights are stated separately in brackets and in the set composition.

Do mixed sets have a single length?

Mixed sets designated 125 mm or 150 mm share a common length. The mixed 9-pair set contains lengths of 100, 150 and 200 mm.

Which steel is used for the parallels?

Hardened 20Cr steel with a hardness of 58–62 HRC. The parallels are ground, with chamfered edges and laser dimension markings.
