SMT thread milling head with internal coolant

Indexable cutter for 11UID or 16UID inserts · metric 60° and imperial 55° threads · inserts sold separately

SMT indexable thread milling cutter, including for deep holes. The cylindrical-shank body has seats for replaceable UID inserts and internal coolant supply. Select the insert type, diameters and lengths for the tool version and the thread.

1. Applications and thread profile

The selected insert determines the thread profile and pitch range. The SMT body designation identifies its version and compatible insert size; it does not replace the complete thread designation or cutting insert designation.

2. Body and internal coolant

Coolant reaches the cutting section through the body. The size card identifies the insert system. The 42CrMo designation applies to the body; the cutting insert is a separate component.

3. Meaning of the dimensions

Working length l and overall length L describe different sections. Check both lengths and the shank diameter. The card photograph is illustrative and not to scale; use the labelled values for selection.

The table shows body dimensions. Versions with the same cutting diameter can have different working and overall lengths. Check the complete designation, price and availability in the size selector; the selected variant card shows its corresponding parameters.

5. Reading the SMT designation

SMT: Thread milling body family.

Number immediately after SMT: Cutting-section diameter identifying the version.

Shank designation: The next code segment includes the shank diameter; d is also shown on the card.

11U / 16U: Compatible insert size: 11UID or 16UID respectively.

Number beside C: Number of cutting teeth / cutting positions in the body.

Dimensions ending in L: The first is working length l; the final one is overall length L. Both values are stated in millimetres.

Read all parts of the designation together. Diameter alone does not distinguish bodies with different lengths, while 11U or 16U identifies insert size rather than thread profile. Select the required 55° or 60° profile when choosing the insert.

6. Selecting UID inserts

Do not interchange 11UID and 16UID sizes based on similar appearance. Insert-to-body size compatibility and insert-profile and pitch compatibility with the thread are separate selection requirements. Inserts fitted in the photograph illustrate the construction and are sold separately. Screw and key designations identify retention; they do not indicate additional accessories included in the offer.

7. Contents and tool selection

Item offered: The selected SMT cutter body with a cylindrical shank.

Cutting inserts: Not included with the body; purchase separately.

Use the complete variant designation and its card when selecting a tool. Compare cutting diameter, shank diameter, both lengths, number of cutting teeth and insert system. These parameters distinguish versions illustrated with a similar photograph.

8. Selection questions

Are inserts included?

No. This offer is for the SMT body; UID inserts are purchased separately.

Does every body accept both 11UID and 16UID?

No. A body designated 11U is intended for 11UID, while 16U is intended for 16UID. The compatible size is shown on the card.

Can a body be used for 55° and 60° profiles?

Select an insert with the required profile in the compatible UID size. Final selection also depends on the complete thread designation and the insert pitch range.

How does working length differ from overall length?

Working length l identifies the indicated working section. Overall length L includes the complete tool and shank. Both dimensions are labelled on the card.

How is coolant supplied?

Through the body to separate outlets at the insert positions.
