Product description
The VMD system includes drill heads with replaceable inserts, adjustable and non-adjustable versions, and spare parts. Select the head by the required hole diameter, connection diameter and compatible components. The selected option card shows its dimensions and insert designations.
Application and construction
VMD heads are used for drilling large holes. The system is intended for lathes, boring machines, machining centres and radial drilling machines. The cutting section uses replaceable inserts; adjustable versions also specify a compatible centre drill.
Diameter adjustment and versions
In an adjustable head, the hole diameter is set by changing the slider position in the cutting section. The interval stated for an option is that head’s drilling-diameter adjustment range. The drilling diameter is adjustable; the connection diameter remains a separate dimension shown on the card.
| Version | Meaning of the interval | Components |
|---|---|---|
| Standard adjustable | Diameter adjustment range | Inserts and centre drill listed for the standard version |
| Upgraded adjustable | Diameter adjustment range | Inserts, centre drill and bar compatible with the upgraded version |
| Non-adjustable | Group of available diameters | Specify the exact diameter when ordering |
Standard heads — component compatibility
The table combines adjacent ranges sharing the same connection diameter, insert designation and centre drill. Each individual head’s adjustment range is stated in its option and on its card. A combined table row does not extend an individual head’s adjustment range.

Upgraded heads — inserts and connecting bars
Upgraded versions have their own insert, centre-drill and connecting-bar assignments. Component designations can differ from the standard version even for the same diameter interval. This version uses WCMX06T308 or WCMX080412 inserts and PLN-series centre drills.
| Drilling diameters [mm] | Connection [mm] | Inserts | Centre drill | Compatible bar |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ø115–120 | Ø40 | WCMX06T308 | PLN-2045 | DXZ-70/C50-40 |
| Ø120–140 | Ø40 | WCMX06T308 | PLN-2556 | DXZ-70/C50-40 |
| Ø140–200 | Ø50 | WCMX080412 | PLN-2556 | DXZ-80/C50-50 |
Non-adjustable versions — specify the exact diameter
When ordering a non-adjustable version, specify the exact head diameter in millimetres. Selecting a diameter group alone does not identify one exact diameter. For example, a group covering 75–100 mm does not mean that one head can be adjusted from 75 to 100 mm.
| Diameter group [mm] | Connection [mm] | Insert designation |
|---|---|---|
| Ø60–74 | Ø25 | WCMX050308 |
| Ø75–100 | Ø30 | WCMX06T308-2 |
| Ø105–110 | Ø32 | WCMX06T308-2 |
| Ø115–130 | Ø40 | WCMX06T308-3 / WCMX08T308-3 |
| Ø135–150 | Ø40 | WCMX08T308-3 |
The 115–130 mm group lists both WCMX06T308-3 and WCMX08T308-3. The exact diameter and assigned version also matter when selecting cutting components. The head photograph is illustrative and does not replace the required component designation.
Centre drill and insert screws
Insert screws are separate components from the clamping screws offered as spare parts. Adjustable-head cards show the confirmed M2.5, M3, M3.5 or M4 designations. A screw designation is shown only for versions where it is assigned to that specific head.
Spare parts and set contents
Clamping-block sets contain two blocks and four matching screws. Select a set using the assigned diameter interval and the block and screw dimensions. The photograph shows component views; the number of photographed views does not define the set quantity.
| Compatible interval [mm] | Block: thickness × width × height [mm] | Screw: diameter × length [mm] | Set |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45–50 | 6.5 × 11 × 22 | Ø4 × 6 | 2 blocks + 4 screws |
| 50–80 | 8.5 × 11 × 22 | Ø4 × 8 | 2 blocks + 4 screws |
| 80–115 | 12 × 14 × 30 | Ø6 × 10 | 2 blocks + 4 screws |
| Thread | Diameter [mm] | Length [mm] | Pack |

| M12 | Ø12 | 18 | 10 pcs |
Selection and frequently asked questions
Does an interval in the name always mean adjustment?
It does for adjustable heads. For a non-adjustable version, it groups available diameters; specify one exact diameter when ordering.
Do standard and upgraded heads of a similar diameter use the same parts?
The assignments can differ. Check the table for the correct version, especially the full insert code and the centre-drill designation.
How do I distinguish drilling diameter from connection diameter?
The drilling diameter is shown beside the head, while the connection diameter is shown beside the connecting section. They are separate card fields. The connection dimension is not the hole diameter produced by the tool.
What does a spare-part option contain?
A block set contains two blocks and four screws. An M10 or M12 clamping-screw option contains 10 screws. Selecting a spare-part option orders the described set of parts.
