Product description

JIS 30P 35P 40P 45P 50P 55P pull stud – profile selection

1. Pull stud and JIS profiles

A pull stud screws into a toolholder and its head engages the spindle gripping mechanism. Selection requires the complete profile, thread and functional lengths to be compared together with the passage and sealing arrangement.

The JIS 30P, 35P, 40P, 45P, 50P and 55P profiles in this description are nominal geometry references. A size designation or the letter P does not replace the drawing of the part required by the machine.

2. Nominal reference dimensions

The table presents external reference-profile dimensions, not measurements of a specific part. Lengths and diameters are in millimetres. M retains the thread designation without adding a pitch.

ProfileD [mm]D1 [mm]D2 [mm]ML [mm]L1 [mm]L2 [mm]H [mm]H1 [mm]
30P12.5812M124323.418.453
35P12.51115M1244241953
40P171419M1654292373
45P211723M2060302374
50P252128M2474342575
55P312736M30984836117

The neck diameter D1 in the 35P reference is 11 mm. The 30P and 35P profiles share the M12 thread designation but have different neck and head diameters. M12 alone does not select between them.

3. Reading the drawing symbols

SymbolMeaning in this JIS reference
DDiameter of the cylindrical pilot near the thread
D1Neck diameter below the gripping head
D2Maximum gripping-head diameter
MThread designation; check pitch and thread class separately
LOverall length from the head front to the end of the threaded portion
L1Head front to the support face at the flange on the threaded side
L2Rear boundary of the head to that same support face
HLocal axial segment marked H near the flange
H1Separate local axial segment marked H1 near the flange

L1 and L2 are not thread lengths. Retain the measurement points marked in the correct drawing. H and H1 also refer to local dimension lines; do not transfer them from another pull-stud family.

4. Thread, size and gripping angle

M12, M16, M20, M24 and M30 in the table are thread designations without a complete pitch specification. Compare pitch with the holder requirement and part drawing. Do not infer it from diameter alone.

The table does not specify the gripping-surface angle. Compare the correct head surface and its angle with the drawing required by the spindle. An angle from another profile of similar length is not a parameter of this part.

The size number in a profile name does not replace D, D1 and D2. Differences in the neck, head and gripping-surface position remain important parts of the complete profile.

5. Through passage and other bores

A through passage connects both ends of the stud. A blind bore ends inside the part. A type without a through passage may contain another bore, so its path must be identified.

A visible opening in the head face or the letter P does not establish coolant flow through the stud. The external dimension table does not specify the path, diameter or depth of a bore in a specific part.

For through-spindle coolant, compare the passage required by the machine system and its connection to the holder. Profiles sharing a thread may still require separate identification of the internal type.

6. O-ring and sealing position

The passage and O-ring are separate features. A ring does not prove a through passage, and a through passage does not specify seal presence or number.

Compare ring presence and number, groove position and the required sealing contact location. External sealing and a seal inside a bore require the correct machine-system contact to be checked. The nominal external profile does not replace that check.

7. Selecting the complete spindle profile

Start with the drawing of the part required by the machine. Compare in this order:

  1. The 30P, 35P, 40P, 45P, 50P or 55P profile, thread and pitch.
  2. The pilot D, neck D1 and head D2.
  3. The overall length L and L1/L2 distances between the correct faces.
  4. The local H/H1 dimensions and gripping-surface angle.
  5. The passage and separate sealing requirements.

The JIS geometry in this reference has its own dimensions. Do not automatically replace it with a BT/MAS403 or SK profile based on the size name. Matching one parameter does not establish the complete part.

8. Short FAQ

Are 30P and 35P identical because both have M12?
Not in this reference. Their neck and head diameters differ; compare the complete profile.

What is D1 in the 35P reference?
11 mm. D1 is the neck diameter below the head.

Does P mean a coolant passage?
Do not infer the passage path from the profile letter. Check passage and sealing separately.

Is L1 or L2 the thread length?
No. They are axial distances from the head to the support face shown in the drawing.
